Robin Reynolds Dacotah Clayworks
Artist's Biography
Born
and raised in Minot, North Dakota, Robin Reynolds was steered into the arts
where she grazed in ballet, viola, voice, and theatre. She was a magician’s
assistant in her grandfather’s magic shows and has kept his secrets
from so long ago. In college, after two clay classes, she found her natural
Taurus roots and clay became her life’s work. Seeking an apprenticeship
rather than graduate school, she settled in Bellingham, WA, remaining there
for eighteen years…as a potter, arts advocate, mentor, and gallery owner.
In 1995, she woke up to the sound of the meadowlark and her persistent homesickness.
Returning to North Dakota intending to make pottery with abundant local clay,
she settled in the mining and brick-manufacturing town of Hebron, ND. Reynolds operates her home based studio and salesroom, Dacotah Clayworks,
in a retired Texaco gas station on the south edge of town. Her pottery
is made with Hebron clay and the glazes are formulated with “wild harvest”
clay she gathers alongside the roads in SW North Dakota. Reynolds and her
husband, Jeff Ridl, a poet and counselor, reside together on weekends when
they enjoy gardening, house holding, and discussions about current events
and reality. Reynolds is an adjunct instructor of ceramics at Dickinson
State University and she is an Artist- in- Residence for the ND Council on
the Arts. In March 2006, Reynolds conducted a clay art residency in
Iceland on an International Artist Exchange program.
