Dacotah Clayworks has enjoyed a fruitful relationship with the North Dakota Council on the Arts, and has been involved in educational outreach programs introducing the art and craft of Pottery Making to children in North Dakota and abroad.

Elementary School, Bismarck, ND, Spring 2008

Grade 1 - Japanese Rice Bowls made with Hebron clay.  The classroom teacher expanded on the rice bowl project to make Japanese fans, learn Japanese calligraphy etc. Clay class duration: 45 minutes.  Skill: Make a pinch pot and decorate with underglazes. Cultural enhancement:  Japanese customs and language. SAYONARA !!

Grade 6...Architectural Unit...Dwellings.  Small huts/habitations made with Hebron clay and decorated with native ND colorful clay (white, red, brown, black). Clay class duration:  5 sessions/45mintes each.  Skill: Make a handbuilt dwelling using various clay techniques; coiling, pinching, texturizing, slab, and slip joining. Enhancement:  Architectural vocabulary and the concerns of creating shelter.
